I am a sociologist working on social networks, cultural production and the creative industries. I received my PhD in Sociology from the University of Manchester in June 2026.
My research examines how the development of markets and institutions influences the way creative industries are organised — how an industry comes together, how people collaborate, and how different positions and opportunities emerge within it. I explore these questions through the case of Modern Sky, one of China's most influential music companies, and its sub-label BADHEAD. By tracing who works with whom, how those patterns of collaboration harden into structure, and whose position in that structure is shaped by where they came from or who they are, my research sheds light on the changing organisation of the music industry. I combine social network analysis with archival research and qualitative materials to understand these processes.
Before pursuing my academic career, I spent several years working in the music industry, where I was an operations manager at Modern Sky in Beijing, working across the BADHEAD and Modern Sky World Music record labels.
